if you want to know were your heart is, look to were your mind goes when it wanders.
it takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.
weve lost connection with the natural world, the further away we get from the wild the less we understand
they are much more frases that i could tell you and you could spend hours reading it so i want to tell you that the hippie culture was not only about having long hair and having colorful clothes it was about following your derams, and not wanting more violence so what they did was going out of the normal culture and start sayind no more war, respect each other, all you need is love... it also wase't only about tthe peace symbol it was about having courage to say no, even if the goverment said yes. the hippies think that if you dirin't wanted to hear them talk they will have to shout.
and they are hippies today only they don't have the colorful clothes and the long hair.amahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14685642894839800484noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-546547496117841996.post-31848870518678990802011-06-16T07:05:00.001-07:002011-06-16T07:05:47.357-07:00poemThey say if you remember the 60’s
You probably wasn’t there
I remember strutting my stuff
Skin tight bells, long blonde hair
Hitched from Maine to California
without the fear that I would die
There was pot everywhere
Half my world was high
Communes sprang up everywhere
There was always a place to stay
Homeless was not the problem
It seems to be today
Farmers trusted us
We’d camp out in their field
Today it is bend or break
Occasionally we yield
Oh, the elders frowned
They did not understand
We were young and alive
Living off the land
The world was our oyster
We were the pearl in the shell
Wanting to be a little high
Wanting to raise alot of hell
We traveled from town to town
And we’d create quite a fuss
In our brightly painted
mini bus
Every generation seems
To have it’s own thing to prove
I remember my hippie days
This chick was in the grooveamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14685642894839800484noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-546547496117841996.post-50397175006235973022011-06-10T07:08:00.002-07:002011-06-10T07:08:33.838-07:00woodstock
<span style="color: black; font-family: "Comic Sans MS"; language: en-US; mso-ascii-font-family: "Comic Sans MS"; mso-bidi-font-family: +mn-cs; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-color-index: 1; mso-fareast-font-family: +mn-ea; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-font-kerning: 12.0pt; mso-style-textfill-fill-alpha: 100.0%; mso-style-textfill-fill-color: black; mso-style-textfill-fill-themecolor: text1; mso-style-textfill-type: solid;">Woodstock was a concert in which the hippie era ends.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Comic Sans MS"; language: en-US; mso-ascii-font-family: "Comic Sans MS"; mso-bidi-font-family: +mn-cs; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-color-index: 1; mso-fareast-font-family: +mn-ea; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-font-kerning: 12.0pt; mso-style-textfill-fill-alpha: 100.0%; mso-style-textfill-fill-color: black; mso-style-textfill-fill-themecolor: text1; mso-style-textfill-type: solid;"> Many hippies where there hearing music, having drugs and relaxing.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Comic Sans MS"; language: en-US; mso-ascii-font-family: "Comic Sans MS"; mso-bidi-font-family: +mn-cs; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-color-index: 1; mso-fareast-font-family: +mn-ea; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-font-kerning: 12.0pt; mso-style-textfill-fill-alpha: 100.0%; mso-style-textfill-fill-color: black; mso-style-textfill-fill-themecolor: text1; mso-style-textfill-type: solid;"> It was a concert for peace.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Comic Sans MS"; language: en-US; mso-ascii-font-family: "Comic Sans MS"; mso-bidi-font-family: +mn-cs; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-color-index: 1; mso-fareast-font-family: +mn-ea; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-font-kerning: 12.0pt; mso-style-textfill-fill-alpha: 100.0%; mso-style-textfill-fill-color: black; mso-style-textfill-fill-themecolor: text1; mso-style-textfill-type: solid;"> Because of rain delays, interruptions, long sets, and disorganization the concert continued into Monday morning but most of the people had left wet and weary. They championed free love and sexual liberation, particularly for women. They also promoted the use of psychedelic drugs which they believed expanded their consciousness.
Hippies participated in alternative arts and street theater and listened to folk music and psychedelic rock as part of their anti-establishment lifestyle. They opposed political and social violence and promoted a gentle ideology that focused on peace, love, and personal freedom. Some hippies lived in communes or aggregated communities of other hippies. Some described the 1960’s hippies movement as a religious movement.

The Beat writers began in New York, but most of those who were closely associated with the movement moved to San Francisco, where the Beat Generation of the 1950s would become the hippie movement of the 1960s.</details>

In particular, folk music was the medium the hippie movement chose above all others. The movement gained steam in 1967 with a San Francisco concert kicking off the Summer of Love. Woodstock followed in 1969 with close to 500,000 people attending. In addition to expressing their ideas about sexuality, drugs and authority, the hippies used their music and other art forms to comment on political and social issues --- most notably the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War.</details>

The hippies followed a pacifist philosophy and sought to protest the war with non-violent demonstrations, including burning draft cards, sit-ins and protesting at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. The political arm of the hippie movement was called the Youth International Party, or "yippies." Hippie culture often encouraged dropping out of society because of what it viewed as social wrongs, and the movement was a catalyst for other social movements, including the back-to-the-land movement, environmental movement and the rise of organic farming.</details>

Among the changes the hippies brought about that are still a part of society today, Stone writes, are sexual freedoms, the environmental movement, humanitarian causes, the natural food movement and a greater acceptance of religious, cultural and ethnic diversity.</details>

The hippy movement let people get away from main stream society and let them protest issues that they agreed with. San Francisco’s summer of love spread the fashion and culture of the hippies all over the country. Thousands of young people flocked to San Francisco and when they went home they took fashion and lifestyle ideas back with them spreading the culture even further. Woodstock was the other great musical event of the sixties for the hippies, it gathered over 500,000 people that came from all over the country to listen to music from great performers like Hendrix and The Who. Only four people died and they were all from accidents, this showed the country that a large number of people could get together in harmony.

The Hippies used harder drugs like heroin and amphetamines but the hippies condemned these drugs from their addictive and harmful properties. Ken Kesey was one person encouraging the recreational use of psychedelic drugs, he and his Merry Pranksters would travel the country in an old bus setting up things called “Acid Tests” which were just big parties that you would ingest a lot of LSD. These “Acid Tests” were set up in public places and at musical events; the people at the party would take LSD often without any knowledge of it. Ken Kesey called this an experiment and thought that People should encounter their worst fears while under the influence of hallucinogenic drugs.

amahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14685642894839800484noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-546547496117841996.post-80137224881540710432011-05-30T07:07:00.001-07:002011-05-30T07:07:25.666-07:00poem
Hippie Days
They say if you remember the 60’s
You probably wasn’t there
I remember strutting my stuff
Skin tight bells, long blonde hair
Hitched from Maine to California
without the fear that I would die
There was pot everywhere
Half my world was high
Communes sprang up everywhere
There was always a place to stay
Homeless was not the problem
It seems to be today
Farmers trusted us
We’d camp out in their field
Today it is bend or break
Occasionally we yield
Oh, the elders frowned
They did not understand
We were young and alive
Living off the land
The world was our oyster
We were the pearl in the shell
Wanting to be a little high
Wanting to raise alot of hell
We traveled from town to town
And we’d create quite a fuss
In our brightly painted
mini bus
Every generation seems
They played, and are probably still playing, a big role in the arts, music, fashion and the overall contemporary culture. Since the 1960′s hippies have existed as a counterculture of the mainstream population, but that doesn’t mean that they are not widely accepted in the normal society.
One of the most popular traditions of being a hippie is the use of drugs to “explore consciousness”. Drugs such as cannabis more popularly known as marijuana and LSD, a hallucinogenic drug, are two of the favorites in hippie culture. Even now that the whole hippie scene has diminished into an obscure idea that teenagers read about in books and magazines, their influence, specially in the use of drugs are still apparent.
amahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14685642894839800484noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-546547496117841996.post-4934594124310324372011-05-24T07:10:00.000-07:002011-05-24T07:10:40.811-07:00woodstokThe Woodstock festival or concert as they are called now was the most popular concert of the 1960’s.

With more than 500,000 people attending the event, the three-day concert that took place in nearby Woodstock, New York in a town called Wallkill on Sam Yasgur’s farm for three days in August 1969, prove to be the climax of the 1960’s spirit.

However, the concert was plagued with problems from the beginning. First, the developers of the concert ran into problems finding an actual site to have the concert.

It was suppose to be in Woodstock but the townspeople did not like the thought of a large number of hippies showing up in their backyard. Once a place was found, parking issues, transportation in and out of the site, water, electricity, and stage problems began to arise.

The concert was planned for only 200,000 but the developers became quickly overwhelmed when more than 500,000 people showed up.

The sheer number of people caused resources like water and sanitary conditions to become limited. Unlike the Monterey Pop Festival, Woodstock was not free.

The developers planned to make money and the artists expected to be paid. These were not burgeoning artists, these were some of the most popular and talented artists in the world that were performing.

However, when the gates became flooded and run over by the overwhelming crowds, the developers deciding – were forced - to forego the cost of admission.

Because Woodstock eventually turned into a free concert, this put a financial burden on the developers. Initially they didn’t make any money from the concert but later on from record and film sales they did recoup some of their costs.

Then the rain came. The rain turned the farm that the concert was being held on into a mudslide. Due to the wind and rain, the stage suffered damage and electrical problems became a major concern.

Sanitary, food, water, and other supplies were extremely limited.

Many of the top music acts that performed at Woodstock included Ritchie Havens, Arlo Guthrie, Joan Baez, Santana, Janis Joplin, Sly and the Family Stone, Grateful Dead, Credence Clearwater Revival, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Joe Cocker, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and Jimi Hendrix.

The concert opened with Ritchie Valens on Friday and ended with Hendrix on Monday morning.

The festival was long, too long, many acts performed for hours including the Who, whose performance included a 24 song set and was interrupted by one of the concert’s developers, Abbie Hoffman, to protest a national news incident.

Because of rain delays, interruptions, long sets, and disorganization the concert continued into Monday morning but most of the people had left wet and weary. Many acts began their performances in the early morning hours.

By the time Hendrix performed most of the crowd had left, which was unfortunate because his was one of the best performances, and most memorable by those who stayed, of the festival.

Woodstock was the opposite of the Monterey Pop Festival, which encountered no problems with the crowds, weather, or artists, and was organized. There were two deaths, arrests, and, of course, drug use. In fact, one of the deaths was due to a heroin overdose.

Despite all of the problems encountered with the Woodstock Festival, the concert went on and was a success and a historical event in music history and has spawned many Woodstock revivals years later. amahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14685642894839800484noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-546547496117841996.post-23304037049620188292011-05-16T07:08:00.001-07:002011-05-16T07:08:42.710-07:00BullyingBullying is abusive treatment, the use of force or coercion to affect others,[1] particularly when habitual and involving an imbalance of power. they made bullying to everyonre that they wanted and they dirint think about the feeleings of others, and if someone was good doing something and he had black skin he was no more good in that thing for the comunity, and that is when the hippies came, the hippies talk about no more war but also they talk about respecting each other and that everyone has rights, and the skin color or were are they from wouden't change that.
This counterculture was called the hippy movement; the hippy movement didn’t start in the 1960’s and can be traced back to the late 1800’s. The hippy movement attempted to bring change and its fashion, music and lifestyle moved around the world.
The catalyst for change happened in 1940 when America had seen two wars and a depression, people wanted to get out of the society and responsibilities placed on them and they let their frustration out in poetry. Then in the 1950s coffee houses started to open where these people could just hang out and share ideas. Beatniks were the first hippies and they came from these coffee houses they wore old and dirty clothes and sunglasses constantly. Beatniks used the phrase “I’m hip” so some people called them hipsters this name slowly changed to hippies.
The hippy culture in the sixties helped protest the war and support the black power, feminist and other movements. The hippies started their protests and tree hugging ways in Berkeley and they helped in the sit-ins for equality of rights for white and black people and other protest movements. The hippy movement let people get away from main stream society and let them protest issues that they agreed with. It showed people that they didn’t need to conform and they didn’t need to all fit into the same mould you could be an individual and share the love.
Some of the main musical events for the hippies during the 1960s were San Francisco’s summer of love (1967) and Woodstock (1969).
Sadly though when you think of Hippies now you also think of drugs, Hippies brought the drugs with them when they travelled, they used drugs like LSD and marijuana and they teamed these drugs with psychedelic rock.
Hippies travelled a lot and they learned to travel light, living out of a small bag with only a couple changes of clothes (if that). They didn’t care how they got from destination to destination and other Hippy homes where open to them staying the night. People in that decade were more cooperative in helping you get what you wanted or where you wanted. In 1963 Phyllis and Ron Patterson got the idea of going to Southern and Northern California during the summer and the fall, to a renaissance faire to sell home made goods. So in the fall and summer months families would truck or bus to renaissance fairs in their home crafted buses. One of the most famous Hippy buses was made by Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters, it was an old 1939 International Harvester school bus and they made it for a journey across America from La Honda to New York, for the release of Ken Kesey’s second book Sometimes a Great Notion. The Merry Pranksters and Kesey fitted the bus out for sleeping and eating, they even turned the roof into a stage and played music as they drove through towns. Then they painted some wild psychedelic art on it and named it “further”
The Hippy movement was great during the 1960’s because it showed people that change was good and the Hippy movement also helped other movements in protests and the like. The Hippy movement seems to have disappeared for the moment but I am wondering where it will pop up next.
